Stinger
Stinger graphite electrodes are smaller in diameter and length compared to the sizes of the graphite electrodes used within smelting furnaces.
They are used in metallurgy smelting applications, specifically when a smelting furnace has cooled down and the molten product that gets extracted through the furnace tap hole, has solidified.
Stinger graphite electrodes serve to arc the smelting furnace tap hole prior to the smelting furnace starting up.
This is to ensure that once molten product is produced in the furnace, it may be easily tapped from the furnace without residual solidified product clogging the tap hole and preventing the extraction thereof.
