Flotation Reagents
Froth flotation separates minerals based on their wettability: hydrophobic (water-repellent) and hydrophilic (water-loving) properties. Finely ground ore is mixed with water and reagents that modify mineral surfaces. Key reagents include collectors, which bind to target minerals; frothers, which stabilize the froth; and modifiers, which adjust conditions to optimize separation.
This process enhances the attachment of hydrophobic minerals to air bubbles, separating them from hydrophilic waste material.
