1 Common Goal for the Future of Gold
On Wednesday, 17 September 2024, together with our partners, Jacobi Group, we embarked on the 2nd edition of the Go for Gold Conference.
From the outset, our vision was to build on what we achieved last year. The intent of Go for Gold to foster an environment that not only inspires through knowledge sharing but also encourages meaningful connections. While this year was no different, we explored ways in which we ourselves could do better, for those attending and the exhibitors too. Seeing this vision come to life yet again was truly rewarding.
This year’s line-up consisted of:
The Latest Innovations in Activated Carbon: Exploring the newest advancements in activated carbon production and global best practices in carbon management to boost gold recovery and plant performance.
Advanced Rheology Modifiers: Discovering how Arkema’s Opale™ Solutions can optimize slurry handling, reduce energy costs, and improve tailings management.
AZTEC Upflow Reactor (AZ-UFR): Uncovering the potential of this groundbreaking technology to improve gold recovery rates and cut operational costs through innovative leaching solutions.
Critical Role of Slurry Sampling: Understanding the importance of accurate slurry sampling in improving ore quality assessments, decision-making, and gold recovery.
Sustainable Gold Extraction with GlyCat Technology: Exploring the future of environmentally friendly gold extraction using glycine, with case studies demonstrating successful applications and cost-saving benefits.
Glycine-Assisted Cyanidation: Getting insights into on-site testing of glycine-assisted cyanidation, with findings that could revolutionize your mine’s gold recovery.
Panel Discussion on AI Implementation in Mining
One of the standout sessions at the conference was the panel discussion on the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the mining sector. The panellists explored how AI technologies could enhance efficiency and productivity in mining operations, shedding light on the potential benefits and challenges of integrating these advancements into the industry.
Panellists: Bonginkosi Khoza (Moderator) – Technical Metallurgist; UDEC Group, Stephen Joseph – Head of Metallurgy; Gold Fields, Elias Pobe – Executive Head: Metallurgy SA Morne du Plessis – Senior Data Scientist; Minopex, Gerhard Nel – Partner; McKinsey, Prof. Glen Nwaila – Professor of Economic Geology and Head of School; University of the Witwatersrand.
Exhibitors
This year an additional hall specifically allotted to 10 different exhibitors. Thank you Azmet, Derrick, Draslovka, Foxolutions, Goldplat, Kemix, Maelgwyn, Multotec, Patterson & Cooke, Pump & Abrasion. Each exhibitor contributed toward a very comprehensive G4G swag bag which yet again was a hit with the attendees.
Building a Community
We were thrilled to see attendees actively networking that we hope will extend beyond the conference. Many shared stories of meeting potential collaborators or mentors, and the excitement in the room was palpable. We believe these connections are crucial in today’s fast-paced world, where support and collaboration can make all the difference in achieving our goals. It reaffirmed our belief that when we come together, we can create a powerful network of support and inspiration.
Looking Forward with 1 Common Goal for the Future of Gold
As we reflect on the success of the “Go for Gold” conference, we are grateful for the opportunity to bring together industry professionals for a day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration. The positive feedback and engagement from attendees emphasizes the value of creating spaces for meaningful discussions and knowledge-sharing within the gold mining community.
We look forward to building on this momentum and organizing future events that continue to support and empower professionals in the South African gold mining industry. Thank you to all who participated in making the “Go for Gold” conference a truly enriching and rewarding experience.
As we go for gold – together.
